Wagga Base nurses say they're understaffed, and under pressure

Union calls for better ratios

Members of the NSW Nurses and Midwives Association held a rally at the Wagga Base Hospital entrance yesterday, calling on the Berejiklian government to commit to a safe, more accountable nurse-to-patient ratios.

The Union says local nurses and midwives are under pressure as a result of under-staffing, increased workloads and poor skill mix issues across the facility.

Organiser Zoe-Anne Guinea says short staffing is a major issue across the state, but here at Wagga it’s been compounded by the regular opening of unfunded beds in a number of the specialty units.

However the Murrumbidgee Local Health District has released a statement saying it had not received a notification from the NSW Nurses and Midwives Association expressing concerns about workloads or staffing.
