Victorian Driver Caught Doing 182km/h in NSW

Told Police “having too much fun”

23 December 2017

It seems the message about speeding this Christmas still isn’t getting through to some drivers.

NSW Traffic and Highway Patrol stopped a 22 year old Victorian man after he was detected travelling 182 in a 110 zone.

The man was driving a bright yellow Magna on the Newell Highway at West Wyalong.

When Police spoke to the man he said, “I thought I was doing 150. I was having a bit too much fun”.

The 22 year old was issued with a $2384 penalty notice & his visiting driving privileges have been withdrawn for 6 months.

Since the start of Operation Safe Arrival just over a week ago, Police have issued 13,416 infringement notices, more than 9,500 for speeding and 474 for drink driving.

So far 11 people have been killed during the road safety campaign, a statistic that is alarming Police.

Assistant Commissioner Michael Corboy of the Traffic & Highway Patrol Command, has once again appealed for road users to consider their actions while travelling these holidays.

“Speeding, drink-driving, fatigue and driver distraction are still the biggest contributing factors to fatal crashes.

“We have had 11 people die during Operation Safe Arrival, which means numerous families will have a loved one missing from holiday celebrations.

“If that is not enough to deter drivers from speeding, I don’t know what is,” Assistant Commissioner Corboy said.

The latest fatality was a man in his 20’s who was killed in a motorcycle crash on Waterfall Way at Dorrigo.

Double demerits are now in force across NSW.
