Indian skipper Virat Kohli has said he will only play the fourth Test against Australia if he is 100% fit.

Kohli is battling a shoulder injury that saw him limited in the field during the drawn third Test, and it is an injury that has put him in serious doubt.

Shreyas Iyer, who scored a double century against Australia in their warm-up match before the series, has been called in as cover.

Kohli declared on Friday he will only play pending a fitness test.

"If I get through the fitness test, then I'll play," he told reporters.

"Probably will take a call later tonight or tomorrow."

Kohli took part in fielding drills with the Indian team on Thursday, only throwing underarm, and did not bat.

"If I'm 100% fit for the game, is the only condition that I'll take the field," he said.

"The rules are the same for everyone and it applies for everyone."
