UK Election: Shock Hung Parliament Predicted

Could delay Brexit talks

9 June 2017

It looks like UK Prime Minister Theresa May's move to call a snap election has backfired, with exit polls predicting a hung parliament.

It's a huge shock, since predictions had been for May's Conservatives to score an even bigger majority than they had.  The early election was a gamble, to try to strengthen her negotiations for Brexit from the European Union.

There's been some talk it comes down to young people voting in a backlash to the Brexit referendum by supporting the Labour Party led by Jeremy Corbyn.

What happens next is really up in the air, but no doubt there'll be shock waves - the pound already fell sharply after the exit poll result was announced.
