One poor old Uber customer accidentally got stumped with a whopping $19,000 fare - just for a 20-minute trip.

Hisham, who was in Canada, was taking a trip through Toronto that went about eight kilometres and lasted just the 21 minutes.

What should have cost him about $15 instead set him back a whopping $18,518.50.

That's $19,133.31 in Australian dollars.

Slate reported Uber weren't backing down from their initial calculations, but have now resolved the matter.

“There was an error here and it has been resolved,” an Uber spokesperson told Slate.

“We have provided a full refund to this rider and apologized to him for this experience. We have safeguards in place to help prevent something like this from happening, and we are working to understand how this occurred.”

Thanks for choosing Uber, Hisham.
