Tim Cahill is in doubt for the Socceroos world cup qualifiers against Honduras after injuring his ankle while playing for Melbourne City against Sydney FC last night.

Cahill was tussling for possession with Sydney defender Jordy Buijs when he went over and rolled his ankle.

He tried to stay on the park but had to come off for Marcin Budzkinski in the 24th minute.

The Socceroos’ leading goalscorer was visibly shattered when he came off.

“He was devastated,” Fox Sports reporter Michael Zappone said during the coverage of the game.

“He knows the next week is in doubt.”

He was then spirited out of the stadium and taken to get scans on his ankle at hospital.

The Socceroos are flying to Honduras for the first leg of the qualifiers today.

The first game kicks off next Saturday at 9am AEDT.
