After Matty Renshaw had to sit out the rest of the SCG test with concussion and with Davey Warner off injured, the Aussies have had to bring on a 13th man as a sub fielder today.

The young fella that came on is Mickey Edwards, a NSW cricketer who plies his trade for the Sydney Sixers in the Big Bash.

His flowing blonde surfer locks and 198cm frame made the 22-year-old an instant cult hero, with the SCG crowd chanting his name (once they’d found out what it is).

It brought about a brilliant Bill Lawry quote too:

The fans were absolutely loving his work, and not necessarily the on-field stuff:

It’s enough to make you swell with patriotic pride.

His club side were loving the attention too:

The only thing no one loved was when Warner came on meaning Mickey came off!

Good on ya Mickey ya bloody legend!

The Aussies are currently running through Pakistan, who are 7/189 chasing 465.
