The AFLW Just Had Its First Draw

Crazy ending!

18 February 2017

The Fremantle v GWS AFLW at Blacktown just ended in the first draw of the competition’s history, in just the ninth match.

GWS were held goalless in the first term but managed to gradually peg Freo back over the last three quarters to tie the match 7.1 (43) to 6.7 (43).

Freo — who led for almost the entire match — will be ruing missed opportunities, and it took a late defensive mark to Kirby Bentley to deny GWS a win after Britt Tully’s free kick fell short.

Watch the last two minutes here:

Remarkably, the first draw in the AFLW had the same scoreline as the first draw in the VFL in 1897:

The draw is the first premiership points taken by either side this season.
