The AFL is considering outlawing the use of studs in marking contests, according to Riley Beveridge at AFL.com.au.
GWS forward Toby Greene has made a habit of using his outstretched leg to make space for himself, including a couple of high profile incidents in the elimination final against Sydney.
He wasn’t sanctioned for either incident, nor was a free kick paid.
Greene was, however, given a $1500 fine for contacting Luke Dahlhaus’s head with his studs in 2017.
The league may outlaw the use of studs altogether, only penalise the use of studs in front-on contact or only if there is a secondary motion with the player's leg, according to AFL.com.au.
