The AFL is keeping the bounce.

The league made the decision on Tuesday to retain the bounce for next season at the start of quarters and at stoppages.

It comes despite resistance from the umpires, who wanted the bounce removed after citing issues such as injury and anxiety around the right technique.

But AFL chairman Richard Goyder and football boss Steve Hocking confirmed it was here to stay.

“We are delighted that that was the recommendation and delighted to endorse it today,” Goyder said.

“It is great that the bounce will kick-off AFL football games, there’s nothing like the roar of the crowd and the expectation that the bounce will start our great game.”
