Steven Motlop has reportedly nominated Port Adelaide as his preferred destination.
Triple M's Warren Tredrea tweeted Motlop has chosen Port Adelaide over Adelaide and Gold Coast.
The news was later confirmed by Port Adelaide, leaving Geelong with three days to match the offer.
Port Adelaide list manager Chris Davies previously expressed confidence in getting the deal done.
“I’m confident we’re in the conversation," he told AFL Trade Radio.
“There’s some conjecture about who is offering what, but we’re still in the conversation and we’re comfortable with what our pitch has been so far.
“Steven will make his own decision and whichever way he goes will be the right one for him.
“We’re pleased we’ve got to this point so far and we’re still confident we’ve got a compelling argument for Steven to come to our club.”
