Someone Started A Twitter Account For The Nintendo AFL Commentator And It’s Well Worth A Follow

From the NES game

If you’re of a certain age, you definitely remember the AFL game on the NES — the first dip of the toe into the water for footy video games.

While it left a lot to be desired — the teams looked nothing like what they were supposed, and who were Hobart and Darwin anyway? — it was the source of a lot of fun for eight-bit footy fans.

A lot of elements of the game became cult figures amongst footy and video games fans, mostly the umpire, who looked like Mal Meninga and had a famous digitised voice announcing boundary decisions (“Outta bounds. On the full” was a familiar catchcry in school footy matches) and the commentator, who had a luxurious 80s moustache and provided platitudes at the end of each quarter.

Now some enterprising soul on Twitter has set up an account for the Nintendo AFL Commentator that comments on the games each weekend.

He had this to say as Sydney mashed St Kilda on Saturday:

He had a say on the Brisbane v Essendon score review:

He was impressed with Collingwood’s Queen’s Birthday effort:

He managed to find his way into Hawthorn’s secret training session:

The GWS v Gold Coast game escaped him though:

The commentator was also bringing back some Throwback stuff:

Definitely worth a follow!

Damian Barrett had some info on the Hawks’ secret training session.
