Unfortunately the old Queenslander home was completely destroyed by the time crews arrived on scene.
A neighbour had pulled the property owner from the home and alerted emergency services.
Paramedics treated the elderly man at the scene for shock and possible smoke inhalation and was later taken to the Toowoomba Hospital.
Investigations continue into the cause of the fire, it is not believed to be suspicious.
