Same-Sex Marriage Bill Passes The Senate

BREAKING

29 November 2017

The bill to legalise same-sex marriage in Australia has passed the Senate today.

Amendments tabled by Conservative Liberal MPs, Pauline Hanson's One Nation, Liberal Democrats senator David Leyonhjelm and the Greens have all been defeated.

The result was 43-12 in favour of passing the bill.

"I am so proud of Australian democracy today, more proud than I have ever been,” Attorney-General George Brandis said ahead of the vote, reports news.com.au.

“Nobody owns this result but the Australian people themselves.”

The bill will now go to the lower house for approval.

Parliament will extend sittings for the year to accommodate for its passing.
