Roger and Serena confirmed for Hopman Cup 2019

Could be the final time it's held

3 October 2018

In a big boost for the 2019 Hopman Cup, organisers have secured 23-time Grand Slam winner Serena Williams.

The event to be held at RAC Arena already has Roger Federer locked in to represent Switzerland with playing partner Belinda Bencic.

Williams will team up with up and coming star Fraces Tiafoe.

For Australia, West Aussie Matt Ebden will line up as for his second Hopman Cup appearance, first playing in 2015.

Ebden has reached three semifinals on the ATP circuit this year, and reached his highest career ranking of 43 following a great run in the European summer.

He will be playing alongside Ash Barty, who last played in Perth as a 16-year-old.

Since then, she left the sport, took up cricket, then returned and has now won two career titles including this year's Nottinham Open.

There is talk that the upcoming event could be the last, with the likelihood to be replaced by a men's team tournament run by the ATP.
