Revised Rubber On The Way For Supercars

Blowouts Prompt Action

25 April 2017

Tyres have become the talk of pit lane for the Supercars in 2017 - and not for the right reasons.

The introduction of new soft compound control rubber's might mean record lap times, but it's also coincided with a spike in tyre blowouts this season.

But it wasn't all because of supplier Dunlop.

A number of teams have deployed aggressive set-ups outside of Dunlop's recommendations.

The situation prompted Supercars officials to increase minimum tyre pressures and recommend a camber setting for the previous round at Phillip Island.

Dunlop says it's identified the cause of the blowouts and has already begun work on improving its soft tyres - even though they won't be used again until October's Bathurst 1000.
