MCing the Xmas in July fundraiser luncheon at the Northside Tavern in Merredin for the Gumnut Gals was a huge success this week. The Royal Flying Doctor Service and St John Ambulance were the recipients of over $2000 that was raised on the day. There were Christmas carols sung by the community choir, prizes galore, auctions, a fantastic talk from Donna Crook who spoke about St John Ambulance and all the work they do and not to mention we had a truly gluttonous 4 course meal that was enjoyed by all.
Queen Jules told me a little bit about the history of how the Merredin chapter came to be, she had been listening in to an interview on the radio between a Muckinbudin member from the Dusty Diamonds chapter and became inspired. Then in 2004 she and Iris began the Gumnut Gals, “hard nuts to crack” and they meet up once a month to wine and dine and have a real good time.
Would really love to hear from any other members from chapters throughout the Central Wheatbelt and Avon valley as I know there are many more groups throughout the state. I can be contacted at the office at Triple M on 089416692 or whilst I’m on air in the morn 13 27 10, otherwise the Facebook pages can always be posted to or messaged :)
