Prime Minister Scott Morrison joined the Hot Breakfast this morning and defended his government’s record on the issue of climate change this morning.

LISTEN HERE:

“In Australia we’ve reduced emissions by 12.8%, we’ve been leading the world on renewable energy investment, this year we’re gonna not just meet, we’re gonna beat our Kyoto emissions reduction target, we’re gonna beat that by 411 million tons,” the prime minister said.

“That’s about 80% of what our emissions are every year.

“So, look, I’ve been making the point that Australia has been getting a lot done in this area.

“We’ve got our investments in the Snowy Hydro 2.0 project, the Marinus Link to Tasmania, the Battery of the Nation, we’ve got $500 million invested in power research.

“Australia’s getting on with the job, we’re getting the job done.

“Our emissions reductions have been better than Canada, they’ve been better than New Zealand. We’re getting on with the job and we’ve got our funds and our plans to keep reducing those emissions.

“In 10 years we’ll be beating our Kyoto targets today, so Australia’s getting on with it and we’ve got a good story to tell.”

Prime Minister Morrison also said everyone was on the same page when it came to working on climate change action.

“There’s no debate in this country about whether we should or shouldn’t take action on climate change,” the prime minister said.

“That’s not the argument the government’s having.

“The government’s saying ‘we wanna get there with a balanced policy which doesn’t put people’s taxes up, doesn’t take away their jobs, and doesn’t put their electricity prices up.

The PM also discussed renewable energy and Holding leaving Australia.
