A West Australian P-plater has copped a $300 fine and lost three demerit points after being caught chowing down on breakfast cereal while behind the wheel of her car.

The 19-year-old was caught driving along Marmion Avenue in Connolly, a suburb of Perth, when she was photographed by another driver tucking into her breakfast while driving last Wednesday.

The photograph of the woman prompted an immediate response from Police Commissioner Chris Dawson, who said she could expect a knock at the door "very soon".

After the image went viral on social media, local police identified the driver and issued her with an infringement for "driving without due care and attention".
