Aussie tennis tyro Nick Kyrgios just knocked off incoming world number one Rafael Nadal 6-2, 7-5 at the Cincinnati Masters.

Nadal is now through to his second Masters semi to play David Ferrer, after beating Rafa with some huge hitting.

He celebrated with a gesture to recently terror-struck Barcelona.

Kyrgios has been struggling with a hip injury for several months, but seemed untroubled by it on his way to a second career win over the imperious Spanish bull.

The win means Kyrgios’s record against the biggest stars in tennis is very impressive:

The performance was made even more remarkable by the fact that Kyrgios had played just a few hours earlier, finishing off a 4-6, 7-6, 6-3 win over Ivo Karlovic in a match that had been delayed due to rain.

It’s encouraging form for Kyrgios with the US Open set to start in just over a week.

Nadal will regain his number one ranking after this tournament.
