A-League side Newcastle Jets’ social media team expertly trolled Melbourne City superstar Tim Cahill on Twitter after their game in Coffs Harbour last night.

Cahill was largely anonymous in City’s 2-1 loss, which became a source of fun for A-League fans on Twitter:

Newcastle themselves got into the spirit, with their reply going down as an epic troll given Cahill was still on the pitch and it could have backfired.

The tweet refers to Jets captain Nigel Boogaard, whose immense defensive efforts in containing City’s star studded forward line featuring Cahill and striker Bruno Fornaroli earned him the Man of the Match award.

Fornaroli scored a consolation for Melbourne City after midfielder Andrew Nabbout scored either side of half time for the Jets.

The loss continues a poor recent run for City — they’ve only won two of their last nine games and taken 10 of a possible 27 points.

On the other hand, Newcastle’s win propels them to sixth and puts them firmly in contention for a finals spot.
