A noise complaint has turned into a tense standoff involving police and two men in Maryland this morning.
Officers attended a home at Carbora Close at around 1:15am following complaints about loud music to find the pair hanging out in a garage at the property.
It's alleged one of the of the men was spotted with a gun, however he refused to hand it over to police after being asked several times.
Negotiators and the Tactical Operations Support Unit were called in as a result, and the pair were peacefully taken into custody at 4am.
Police say the weapon turned out to be a replica pistol.
A 36 year old man was charged with possess unauthorised pistol and offensive language and was bail refused to appear at Newcastle Local Court today.
While a 39 year old was charged with possess unauthorised firearm and given conditional bail to appear at Newcastle Local Court on March 14.
