Natalie Portman's love of Aussie rules has continued, earning some promotion in her appearance on The Ellen DeGeneres Show.

Portman joined the show where Ellen displayed the recent photos of her down at Melbourne training, sporting a Dees jumper and trying to figure out what was going on.

She called it the "platypus" of sport, which we're not so sold on.

"This is really funny. My son watched Australian rules football on TV which is sort of the platypus of sports, I guess," she explained.

"You can bounce the ball, but you kick it, and then you tackle each other, but no padding. It's like a crazy game!

"It's really hardcore."

She spent a full minute on it!
