In a huge warning shot for England, Mitch Starc just took a hat-trick in New South Wales’ game against Western Australia at Hurstville Oval.

Starc took the wickets of Jason Behrendorff, David Moody and Simon Mackin in consecutive balls to wrap up WA’s innings.

He bowled Behrendorff and Mackin, while Moody fell LBW.

It completed a succesfull innings for Australian bowlers, with Starc taking 4/56, Josh Hazelwood 3/24 (including both Marsh brothers and Hilton Cartwright), Pat Cummins 3/21 and Nathan Lyon 1/39.

NSW lead WA by 94 runs after the first innings, with NSW racking up 270 with Steve Smith top-scoring with 76.

WA could only manage 176 in reply, thanks largely to Starc’s wrecking job.

Opener Cameron Bancroft carried his bat for 76*.
