Pure destruction

Tasmania wicketkeeper Matthew Wade is known to roll the arm over on occasion.

He famously sent down a Test over against Sri Lanka in Hobart in 2012, and once took Joe Burns’s wicket Burns had made a ton against Victoria.

Today he reinforced his quick bowling credentials, wrecking Queensland’s lower order in a destructive spell at the Gabba.

Wade took 3/13 in 3.4 overs, having Mitch Swepson caught at gully, Jimmy Perison (who’d made 61) caught at slip, and trapping Brendan Doggett LBW to bring the Bulls’ innings to a close.

The spell quadrupled Wade’s previous first class wicket tally, taking it from one to four.

He also sent down some bouncers to really show the tail enders who’s boss.

Wade’s career average is now quite respectable:

Maybe he’ll be able to find a way back into the Australian team after all.

Despite Wade’s heroics, Tasmania are miles behind in the game — they were rolled for 115 in response to the Bulls’ first innings of 255, and after Queensland made 285 they now need an unlikely 425 to win the match outright.
