Western Bulldogs superstar midfielder Marcus Bontempelli will miss two or three weeks of football after being rushed to hospital last night for surgery to remove his appendix.

In a statement from the club, the Western Bulldogs said Bontempelli completed training unhindered yesterday before complaining of abdominal pains in the evening.

Bontempelli was then rushed to hospital with acute appendicitis and had surgery overnight to remove his appendix.

The young gun was due to play his 100th game of AFL footy against Melbourne this weekend.
