Peak hour transport users have witnessed a police shooting at Sydney's Central Train Station.

An investigation headed by the homicide squad has already been launched in a bid to determine what happened when an armed man was shot and killed last night.

Authorities were called to a florist at Central Station on Eddy Avenua following reports of an attempted armed robbery just before 7pm.

Its believed the suspected was wielding a pair of scissors when he was confronted by police, before shots were allegedly fired in his direction.

A critical incident investigation will look into all aspects of the shooting, including the discharge of police firearms, Acting Assistant

Commissioner Mark Walton said.
