Jockey Damian Lane is riding Darren Weir’s horse Kiwia in the Queen Elizabeth Stakes today, and backs himself to knock off the favourite Qewy.
Appearing on Triple M’s Rocking Horses today, Lane said that while Qewy is the favourite, Kiwia is a great horse in its own right.
“He’s had 11 starts now and missed a place once, which was an unlucky fourth at Caulfield,” Lane said.
“He’s building a very good record, he’s a promising young stayer.
“I think it will be hard to turn the tables on Qewy, as the extra 200 metres will probably suit him (Qewy jockey Kerrin McEvoy) more than myself.
“But if we get a good run in transit, I think he’ll run a big race and if Qewy has some bad luck then I’m sure we can beat him.”
Lane rides Kiwia in the Queen Elizabeth Stakes at 2.50pm today.
