Western Bulldogs star Jake Stringer is confident he has avoided damage to his anterior cruciate ligament.

Stringer twisted his knee during the third quarter against Richmond, going straight down to the rooms and failing to return to the field.

Despite initially fearing the worst, Stringer is upbeat.

“They (the doctors) are pretty confident that it's not (an ACL) so fingers crossed it’s not and I can get back,” he told Channel 7.

“You obviously fear for the worst and then I was a bit relieved when they took me down (to the rooms) and they said they didn’t think it was an ACL."

Despite that, Stringer is still unsure what damage may remain.

“Obviously the relief was there but I've still got to wait and see what I’ve got first," he said.
