Jack Riewoldt was a surprise out from Richmond's side to take on Gold Coast this Saturday.

It's the first game the star forward has missed since 2013, playing 86 consecutive games.

It all comes because of an eye injury.

Riewoldt copped a knock to training during the week that caused a cut to his cornea, on his eye.

It has since seen bleeding at the back of the eye, the club confirmed on their website.

With first-year forward Shai Bolton replacing him, it leaves the Tigers without a recognised tall forward this weekend.
