Triple M and the Australian's Brent Read has revealed that Laurie Daley had still considered the City Country clash as an Origin trial, with several spots originally planned to be determined based on the game.
"Laurie Daley hoped that Matt Moylan would play five-eighth for City and Tom Trbojevic would play on the wing for City," Ready said on Dead Set Legends. Listen to the full report below.
"Obviously with an eye for State of Origin because Tommy's being looked at as a winger because James Tedesco would be the fullback.
"Those plans were thrown into chaos with over 50 players they had to put a line through before they reached the final teams.
"It's disappointing the delay in naming the two sides, with that many people dropping out.
"There's no doubt that Anthony Griffin's decision to let his blokes play has helped."
