There are plans to turn the Clarion Hotel in Mackay into a 249-room retirement village. Mackay International Director Neil Morris tells the Mercury it'd be a place where retirees could enjoy their lives in an upmarket development. The plans have already been submitted to council.

An outspoken local MP is up in arms over the updated State Infrastructure plan. Whitsunday’s MP Jason Costigan says it’s not fair our region’s only got three projects on it.

Mackay's median house price has increased by 4%. Figures from domain show the median house rents in Mackay were steady over the June quarter, at $300 a week. The rental market seems to be showing clear signs of stabilising according to Domain's chief economist.

Country music singer Michaela Cook is backing the Whitsundays with the release of her new single ‘Everything Will Be Alright’. It's dedicated to those affected by Ex-Tropical Cyclone Debbie and the music video was filmed in the Whitsundays, less than three months after the event

The call is out to all pet owners to check out the Mackay council's Pet Registration Day. It'll be held on council’s front lawn on Saturday the 29th. Councillor Fran Mann says everyone's invited.

The Mackay Cutters will go head to head with the guys from PNG this weekend. Its an away game in Port Moresby for our boys as they take on the hunters. Coach Steve Sheppard says the Hunters won't be going easy on them.

While the Brothers Rugby Union boys will battle it out against the Mackay Cities at Leprechaun Park tonight. Kick offs at 7.
