George Bailey just scored a brilliant Sheffield Shield century while the Tasmanian batting order collapsed around him.

Bailey looked largely untroubled as he made 106 off 178 balls with 13 fours and a six out of a total of 172 all out, meaning Bailey made 62% off all the Tassie runs.

The Tassie innings was wrecked by Scott Boland, who took 3/43 and Fawad Ahmed (4/68).

Bailey’s runs are timely as Australia searches for a number six for the Ashes.

His short Test career was confined to the last Ashes in Australia, when he played in all five Tests.

He averaged 26.14 in Australia’s whitewash of England with just one fifty.
