Geelong’s VFL side emulated the seniors today by getting knocked out of the finals.

The Cats got done by 91 points by Melbourne affiliate Casey in the qualifying final after finishing third on the ladder, putting them into a knockout game against Hawthorn aligned Box Hill.

Geelong barely gave a yelp against the Hawks, trailing all day before losing 13.12 (90) to 8.13 (61).

The Cats join Richmond in being knocked out in straight sets — the Tigers finished top before losing first to Williamstown and then to Essendon, who finished eighth in the regular season.

Box Hill now take on Williamstown for a grand final berth, while the other spot will be occupied by one of Casey or Essendon.

Billy Brownless told a brilliant story about Gary Ablett Sr on the Saturday Rub yesterday.
