Geelong have suffered a big blow ahead of their season opener against Fremantle at Domain Stadium with key midfielder Cam Guthrie pulling out of the clash.

Guthrie has succumbed to a calf injury and has been replaced by Darcy Lang in the Cats’ squad of 25.

Geelong’s final team of 22 will be finalised later on Friday.

Guthrie had one of his best seasons in 2016, collecting a career-high 527 disposals at an average of 23 a game.

The clash with the Dockers looms as a danger game for Geelong who have lost five of their last seven games at the Perth venue.
