The City of Albany has received $395,000 in the Community Investments Stream of the Building Better Regions Fund,
announced by the Federal Government today to close the Anzac Centenary in Albany in 2018.
Albany Mayor Dennis Wellington thanked Member for O’Connor Rick Wilson for the funding, which is one of six projects
funded in the Great Southern region.
“The Federal Government has been a major supporter of Anzac Albany and we thank them for this latest contribution
towards recognising and commemorating Albany’s strong connection to WWI,” Mayor Wellington said.
Chief Executive Officer Andrew Sharpe said the City would be working closely with the RSL and community to plan for
Anzac Day and Remembrance Day 2018.
“This won’t be a repeat of Anzac Albany’s events in November 2014, but we will be collaborating to achieve a fitting
commemorative and community program of an appropriate scale that marks the end of Anzac Centenary period and
pays respect to this significant moment in our nation’s history,” Mr Sharpe said.
