Daniel Ricciardo's Hungarian Grand Prix was over almost before it began.

The Aussies race ended after a shunt from Dutch teenager Max Verstappen on lap one.

Both Red Bull drivers made good starts, passing Lewis Hamilton on the first turn and Ricciardo managed to get past Verstappen before his teammate hit him at the next corner.

The contact damaged Ricciardo's car, which was forced off track spilling oil.

Ricciardo was livid.

"Someone hit me. Is that who I think it was?" Ricciardo quizzed his engineer.

"Yes," was the reply.

Ricciardo made then made his thoughts crystal clear.

"F***ing sore loser," Ricciardo responded.

The Red Bull lads... in happier times

With Ricciardo's race over, Verstappen didn't escape unscathed as he was handed a 10-second penalty by the stewards.

The Dutchman eventually went on to finish 5th at the Hungaroring, a circuit where the Red Bull team expected to be challenging for the podium - if not the win.

Back in the paddock, Ricciardo later clarified his comments.

"That was amateur to say the least," Ricciardo said.

"It's not like he was trying to pass. He doesn't like people passing him."

Verstappen's since offered an apology.

"It is never my intention to hit anyone, but especially not your teammate, and especially with the relationship I have with Daniel.

"It's always really good and we can always have a laugh," said the 19 year old.

But Daniel isn't laughing.

"I don't think there is an excuse for it," he said.

Sebastian Vettel won the race, extending his championship lead to 14 points.

Formula 1 takes a mid-season break before returning for the Belgian Grand Prix on August 27.
