Hundreds of locals made their way to the Coffs Harbour Coastline on Sunday in the hope of a glimpse of Migaloo.

After reported sightings of the white whale off Port Macquarie on Saturday, spectators lined the Coffs Coast in search of the mammal.

One of the first sightings came early in the day near Muttonbird Island.

Triple M listener Kathleen telling Moffee, she was delighted to be able to see the whale as it powered north for the winter.

"I've only ever seen photos, so to see Migaloo in real life is something very exciting", she said.

Migaloo, estimated to weigh 30 tonne, was then spotted passing Diggers Beach, Moonee Beach and Sandy Beach, before onlookers at the Woolgoolga Headlands got to see the whale for themselves.

Cars streamed by with families, and even an Ice Cream Truck made the most of the rare chance of sighting the world's most famous whale.

Migaloo will continue to be in the spotlight as he travels north, before a likely return later in the year.
