Emergency services were called to a crash in the middle of the Coffs Harbour CBD on Tuesday morning.

Just after 9:30am two cars collided on the Pacific Highway near Coff Street.

Initially one lane in each direction was closed, however northbound lanes have since been cleared.

The crash comes hours after Member for Coffs Harbour, Andrew Fraser called for locals to take extra care on wet roads in the region.

Mr Fraser said while the rain was a godsend, it had the potential to make our roads dangerous, and with more showers to come this week, he pleaded for drivers to be careful.

“Please take it easy on our roads at the moment,” Mr Fraser said.

“It’s a long time since we’ve had decent rain and that’s helped to bring road grime to the surface, making all of our roads extremely slippery.

Paying tribute to the work of our local emergency services, Mr Fraser said, "I know our emergency services are always on high alert when wet conditions can bring some drivers to grief".

“Please drive to the conditions - slow down, be patient, be courteous to other road users, don’t rush, and make sure you drive with your headlights on", Mr Fraser said.
