Police are investigating after three Queensland children were found in a stolen 4WD at Taree yesterday.

Officers were called to a service centre at Taree South, about 4pm on Monday after a 4WD, which had been reported stolen from the Gold Coast, was seen parked outside.

According to Police, the Manning-Great Lakes Local Area Command found a 15 year old girl in the driver’s seat, with two other girls, aged 13 and 12, as passengers.

Police will allege the eldest girl had driven to Taree in the 4WD; it had been reported stolen earlier that day.

Inquiries by police are continuing; the children are in the care of the NSW Department of Family and Community Services.

The driver has been dealt with under the Young Offender’s Act.
