Ben Simmons has starred in helping the Philadelphia 76ers to a win over the Miami Heat in the first day of the playoffs.

Simmons fell one rebound short of a triple double, racking up 17 points, nine rebounds and 14 assists.

He's the first rookie in history to record that many points, rebounds and assists in their first playoff game.

His 14 assists is the second-most in NBA history by a player making their playoff debut, trailing Magic Johnson's whopping tally of 16, recorded way back in 1980.

The 76ers stormed home in the second half, outscoring the Heat 74-43 without star Joel Embiid, who is recovering from a fractured orbital bone.
