Sisto Malaspina, a beloved Melbourne icon who was murdered on Bourke St on Friday, will receive a state funeral.

This afternoon Premier Daniel Andrews confirmed his family has accepted his offer of a state funeral on Monday afternoon.

"Sisto Malaspina was a Victorian icon, known and loved by us all. I spoke to his family again this morning, and they have accepted my offer of a State Funeral next week, with more details to come. Until then, our love and thoughts remain with Sisto's family."

Mr Malaspina, 74, was the co-owner of iconic Melbourne restaurant, Pellegrini's, where he had been a fixture for over forty years.

Hundreds of people have visited the CBD to pay their respects to the man who was known for his kindness and generosity.

The Somalia-born Shire Ali stabbed three men on Friday afternoon, with Mr Malaspina dying at the scene and two others now recovering in hospital.
