Arctic Monkeys have started working on a new album, according to bassist Nick O’Malley.

Speaking to motorcycling magazine For The Ride, O’Malley said the band started recording this month for a 2018 release.

“If it isn’t [out by next year], we’ve got problems,” O’Malley said.

It will be the Monkeys sixth album, and their first since 2013’s AM, produced by Queens Of The Stone Age frontman Josh Homme.

Listen to the lead single from AM; Why'd You Only Call Me When You're High:

The five year break will be the longest between any of their albums.

In the break, front man Alex Turner has been working with his other band Last Shadow Puppets, whilst drummer Matt Helders has been busy playing drums on the latest Iggy Pop album, 2016's Post Pop Depression
