Alex Johnson has returned to footy successfully, completing a half unscathed.

Johnson took to the field in front of a small but passionate crowd at UNSW Canberra Oval against Canberra.

It was his first game in 1,736 days, since he ruptured his anterior cruciate ligament in the 2013 pre-season.

He has since had five reconstructions and 12 operations in total.

Johnson was impressive on return, too.

He racked up eight disposals and managed to hit the scoreboard, too.

He kicked 1.1, with his goal resulting in a mob of Sydney teammates racing to celebrate with him.

He was rested for the second half.

It was a big win for the Swans, running out 91-point winners, 20.18 (138) to 7.5 (47).
