The AFL has confirmed it will appeal the tribunal decisions made on Tuesday night regarding Carlton's Ed and Charlie Curnow.

The brothers were both separately sent to the tribunal for making contact with an umpire.

Both managed to downgrade their sanctions to a fine, leaving them free to play Melbourne on Sunday.

The AFL says the decision will be appealed, with a hearing set for 3pm on Thursday.

The decision by the tribunal to clear Steven May for a similar incident has not been appealed.
