Adelaide Has Won The First AFLW Grand Final In A Thriller

Brilliant win!

25 March 2017

Adelaide has won the very first AFLW grand final in front of a huge crowd in a thriller at Metricon Stadium.

The Crows were wasteful but led at every change to run out deserving winners 4.11 (35) to 4.5 (29).

The game ended in some controversy however, with suggestions that the last play should have been a holding the ball decision to Brisbane in their forward fifty.

Adelaide superstar Erin Phillips was best on ground with 28 touches, 11 inside 50s, seven marks, seven tackles and 2.2.

She won the best on ground medal to the jubilation of her team mates.

Emily Bates was the best Lion on the day, racking up 19 touches, three marks and five tackles.

Despite the game having to be played at Metricon Stadium rather than the Gabba, 15,610 came through the gates in a ringing endorsement of the AFLW concept.

The loss is a bitter blow for the Lions to swallow after having gone through the regular season undefeated.

The Crows, however, will be celebrating on the Gold Coast deep into the night.
