The ABC has implemented a LGBTQI helpline for staff which are affected by the same-sex marriage debate during the upcoming postal vote on the matter.

According to a report by the Australian, staff can receive counselling services over the phone or obtain a referral for additional support services.

“We recognise that the same-sex marriage/marriage equality debate may be having an impact on some of our employees at work and at home,” ABC People and Culture general manager Rebekah Donaldson said in an email circulated to staff.

“This can be a challenging time for people who are part of and/or have family who are part of the LGBTQI community.”
